How to Make a Facebook Fan Page go Viral?  ‘Daze’ them!

With over 800,000,000 people world-wide now signed up to Facebook, the super-site is proving to be lucrative for performing artists, authors, entrepreneurs and business owners in every niche.

For example, more than half of the people in the United States – let alone the United Kingdom – own a Facebook account. Facebook has recognized that in order for it to succeed it will need to help marketers make money, in turn expanding the platform even further.

At the beginning of last year, we saw the power and magnitude of what ‘going viral’ can do for an artist, author and business alike. With a solid social media plan in place, it didn't take long before the Facebook Fan Page was growing at an alarming rate. How many you ask? Well, in total, there was 27,538 new ‘likes’ with over 95,000 unique page views being generated in an as little as eleven days.

As one example, to put things into perspective, up until that point, a client's website was getting 1,500 hits per month, or about 50 hits per day. After implementing the social media strategies that make Facebook Fan pages go viral, the average hits per day sky-rocketed to well over 2,000 unique hits per day!

So how do you make a Fan Page go Viral?

Over the past 24 months, collected social media research has indicated that in order for a Facebook fan page to gain enough momentum to grow virally, the page needs to get up to 3,500 fans. This is also assuming that these are 3,500 real fans -- not fake accounts or otherwise purchased fans.

Real fans are a necessity because they will engage with their friends and hopefully recommend your Fan-Page to them as well. Ultimately the question becomes: ‘How do I get to 3,500 REAL Facebook fans fast so that my page will grow virally?’

1.     Just like with search engine optimization (SEO), the answer will always be: it depends. Starting with what you already have available, be sure that you are maximizing your efforts by leveraging what is in front of you!

2.     Next, you will need to determine your budget. This is a critical step, as you will need to determine the maximum amount of resources that you are willing to devote to implement your viral social media campaign.

3.     The last consideration you will need to take into account, is what is your goal or objective. What is your intent or "end-goal action" that you want your new fan to take? Generally speaking, the bigger your end-goal is, the more expensive it will be to generate that result.

Facebook is connected by 800 million members around the world, so naturally there are more than a few ways that users interact with one another in relation to Facebook. Below you will find five simple approaches that will drive traffic back to your fan page immediately and start increasing your social reach!

Five Simple Methods To Go Viral Using Facebook

If you recall, the first step to this process was determining what we already had available for our marketing efforts. Friends and family are always a great start for anyone who is just starting, while more established business will turn to their blog, social media networks, mailing and email lists, partners and distributors, and so on. Once you have a list of the people – make that list – who you would like to join your soon-to-be viral Fan-Page, you need to integrate one or more approaches.

Five Viral Marketing Approaches

1.     Offer Incentives. One of the most important buzz terms in Social Media Marketing is ‘Incentivized Marketing’ or ‘WIFM;’ or  What’s In It For Me? All too many artist, authors and entrepreneurs make the fatal mistake of being overly confident about their EP, book, product or services; assuming that consumers are going to automatically like their page.

2.     Socialize More -- And Not On Your Page! Facebook now has the ability to use Facebook as a Fan Page. By signing into Facebook as your fan page and actively collaborating in other groups and fan pages, people who find your comments and links useful are more inclined to ‘like’ your page and become a fan.

3.     Tell them the Story. A friend of mine Gary ‘Gaz' O’Brian and his collegue Rickard Berg, recently released anew EP track. Their gig is Deadeville DF and the track is called Daze.’  It would be a good idea for Gaz and Rickard to tell the narrative about (1) what story in the song? Tell about the making of the track and the video. Tell of the journey,  the inspirations, the climb, the ‘wows.’ Describe the trials and tribulations of being an independent artist these days. Lessons leant. Where it is all going next, et al.

4.     Use Many Venues. From the story, each time you post, make sure you add-value to the forum so no one thinks that you're only out for yourselves. Then when the time comes, when you have built sufficient standing on the current project, post the fan page in a way which will build interest and encourage people to join (more stories, more triumphs). If you can create a controversial or funny or funky post-to-post, often the forum will come to life and various members and they will begin talking about the Daze project. For myself, I’ve had some success in offering competition giveaways on forums to those who join. For example, a competition about ‘What fans like about the new Deadville DF ‘Daze’ track?’

5.     Don't Sell Yourself, Let Your Fans Do It For You. Facebook is a place for friends to communicate with one another -- not to close more direct sales. The emphasis here being direct. While it is critical that your fan page and business make long-lasting and pertinent impressions, it is imperative that you don't forget about ‘incentivized marketing’ and the benefit that you are providing to your fan. The more benefit and value that you provide your fans, the more likely they are in turn to share and recommend your fan page to their other friends. Things like: Free back EPs. Free tickets to venues. Tips on how to get published. How to put a music video together, et al.

The journey to reach 3,500 Facebook fans is a tough one for most performers, DJs, Authors and Entrepreneurs. However, if you use the free social media strategies here, you are going to be in a much better positioned to reach your online marketing goals. The risk-analysis of creating, owning, and operating a viral fan page is slightly different for each industry. However, most ventures stand to make huge gains by expanding their social media marketing by putting some time into their Facebook fan page. And don’t forget: Daze them!Be Sociable, Share!
